I am planning on doing a few days on the southern portion of Shenandoah National Park next week, I remember in September when I was out there water was in short supply at the springs. Can anyone speak to the state of the springs?

Thanks.

I went through there SOBO from 12/9 to 12/14 and had no problems with springs. There was a storm on 12/7 to 12/8 that had left up to six inches of snow on some of the summits. I ended up walking in some amount of snow everyday except the last day.

Any updates benigins? How was it? I am headed through SOBO at the end of March

They've had a fair amount of rain recently, so you could just pack a water microfilter (http://www.watermicrofilters.com) or AquaMira (http://aquamira.com) system and get it from a stream (or out of a puddle) if you really had to. Not sure about the springs though. Good luck.

No issues that time of year except the campground sources will not be running. Some picnic areas have frost free faucets (like Pinnacle right behind the privy)

We have had little to no rain or snow so I am getting a bit concerned. Are there just faucets at the public campgrounds? Anyone have an update on the springs? I'm headed out next Wednesday.

Even with it dry last few weeks, you should be fine. Only when the leaves are out in full and trees take the water, the sources go down. Big Meadows Wayside opens this weekend though.

Yeah, I think the springs will be fine here in March, but if you're on the AT you need to be aware it is the driest part of the park, so I wouldn't pass up any chances at water. I really don't anticipate any problems for you, however.

Thanks for the updates and info. I feel much better. I was hoping to beat the openings but this is just perfect weather so I'll enjoy every footstep along the way.
