It looks like 15+ miles to get from Mountaineer Shelter to Dennis Cove Road. Does anyone know how far/where the Inn is located from this road? (I'm working on a rough itinerary for my NOBO trip this spring. The biggest issue seems to be getting to and from town...I assume I'll be hitching a lot..then getting back to the trail and estimating the mileage I can make that day. I'm not figuring on as many miles on those days back to the trail. Sound right?)

not sure about Iron Mountain Inn but Kincora (Bob Peoples place) is just off the trail to the west on DCR

Dunno but their site says they're 12 miles from the AT... Call 'em.

From Dennis Cove Road, you are looking at over 20 miles by road to the Iron Mountain Inn in Butler,TN. If you are just looking for a shower, a bunk and resupply, I would highly suggest Kincora Hostel which is only a short walk up Dennis Cove Road. Further, Dennis Cove Road is not a heavily traveled road, so it would take a series of "hitches" to get to Iron Moutain Inn. Have a good hike.

Iron Mountain Inn (http://ironmountaininn.com/custom/index.cfm?id=188193) is much easier to get to from US321 not Dennis Cove Rd. I haven't been there but I've spoken with the owner. She also runs the Creekside Chalet (http://creeksidechalet.net/) which is a little cheaper. If you call they should be able to pick you up in Hampton.

See you on the trail,

I'm having Bob and anyone staying at Kincora over for dinner after trail maintenance this week if you are interested in coming. Bob said we'd probably do trail maintenance on Friday this week.

Hi, I have the Iron Mountain Inn and the Creekside Chalet and will pick you up at the 321/Watauga Lake road crossing or
Dennis Cove road. If you stay 2 nights, no charge for pickups and returns to pick up point.

We also pick up at Cross Mtn (Rt 91)

The Chalet has 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, a kitchen, and a hot tub. And we leave breakfast in the frig! Bacon, farm fresh eggs, bread, butter, fruit, juice and coffee.
The rate is $50.00 per night per person BUT if 6 people (3 beds) take it for 2 nights, it's only $150.00 per night plus tax. www.creeksidechalet.net

The Inn is a little more luxurious, but hikers get a discount when I have room! All rooms have whirlpool tubs to soak tired feet in, and a full breakfast is included! Rates are $100.00 per night including pick up and drop off. You'll have gone 450 miles by the time you get here.

Happy New Year and hope to see you soon
