I personally wear it from beginning of October through MLK weekend in January. (Actually longer since my shoulder season wardrobe pretty much is all orange. ;) )

Those big orange tuques are quite functional, and pretty good value.

I hiked for two days in Pennsylvania last weekend, and I wore orange. But of the 30 to 40 other people I saw over my two day hike, the only other people wearing orange were 2 hunters who were hunting on the trail.

Well if people don't want to come out to the ball park, you can't stop them.

I hate it, but I do it (in my own way) - I have a burnt orange stocking cap and an orange pack-cover (that I just keep on regardless of the weather). My typical colors are brown - with a white stocking cap -that might get me shot in NC in the Fall / Winter - sucks though - my fav. colors

Usually $2 later marked down to $1 at the likes of Walmart, although my wife's folks in her dim dusty corner of PA would have called it a "toboggan", the word "tuque" has filters less far into the States than Tim Hortons now has.

wear a bear bell skip the orange-

So, you assume all hunters have perfect hearing? Hmmmmm. Might be a deadly gamble.

From the ATC website:

On state game lands in Pennsylvania, all hunters and non-hunters are required to wear at least 250 square inches of fluorescent orange material on the head, chest and back combined, or a fluorescent orange hat, from Nov. 15–Dec.15 (except on Sundays). The orange material must be visible from all angles (360 degrees).

I would wear some blaze orange. Some hunters do not know dates too well.

Oh and just so you all are 100% clear on that they mean you need to wear an orange cap regardless of how much orange you have elsewhere on your body. that little misunderstanding cost me $150 back in 1994. i even took it to court to fight it. The facts were not in dispute I had well over 250 square inches on my back and chest alone...but I had a warm hat on rather than an orange one....oops.
