View Full Version : Nice solo tent buy at Sierra Trading Post
I just saw this http://www.sierratradingpost.com/mountain-hardwear-sprite-1-tent-1-person-3-season~p~4481g/?filterString=search~tent%2F&colorFamily=01
and decided to pass it along. It isn't the lightest, or freestanding (though you don't have to guy out the vestibule), it's airy (but has nylon fabric over the occupant to minimize frost "snow" or "misting".
I remember seeing this a few years ago and thinking about what a nice design is is, but I don't sleep on the ground (except in winter - and sometimes not even then) anymore.
It looks a lot like a eureka spitfire, just heavier and more expensive.
I checked out this tent a year or 2 ago at my local shop. The inside corner was so tight I thought the seam would split after minimal use, and 3.5 lbs for a solo tent is a bit heavy for me.

The Eureka doesn't have a freestanding vestibule and it has angled poles (a potential weakness,). Eureka uses lower quality nylon fabrics, and their floor is coated to 1800 mm. hydrostatic head vs. 3,000 for the MH. Not the same tent, or even close. In addition, the Eureka has a netting roof, which will allow for "snowing" and "raining" inside. The weight comes from the better quality and additional quality.
If anyone from Whiteblaze buys it and doesn't like it, I will buy it from them (you pay for shipping).

3 lb 8! Holy Snikeys Batman, it looks like a 2 pounder at best, wonder where the weight comes from, i have a Eureka two person at 6 lb and i like it but dif need to shed pounds for the Ides of March launch, haha Matthew McConnahey, Failure To Launch. Don't go there.

I don't man that thing looks inherently fowled like lump in down the shoulder on the rim.

Yup, but as I said it LOOKS like a spitfire.

If that's all that you meant, I'm ok with that. :-?
Hey, folks. Since we're here talking about backpacking tents, here's a new one from LL Bean (lifetime, no questions asked return policy - unless they changed it).

Freestanding (but it doesn't stand very tall), and, like all tents, freestanding or not, you'll need to stake it down in high winds or it might blow apart.
looks nice and light for free standing.
