I've searched the previous (well some) threads relating to my title, but I never found my answer. Here is my question:

Does anyone know of a good travel or short term insurance company? By this I mean, decent premiums/reasonable deductibles.

My wife and I are Southbound Thru hiking the AT this year and are currently looking for some type of travelers insurance; just in case...

Your feedback is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Try Fortis insurance.
I just got a policy for 6 months at around $390.
I have a $500 deductable and after that they pay 100%
Make sure you pay all at once if possible, otherwise you end up paying 30% more. I paid upfront and was able to get a better plan for the money I wanted to spend.

Try 1-800-800-5453 or www.fortis.com (http://www.fortis.com)

I'll see if I can get you a spreadsheet I made of their costs.

We too used Fortis. It was around $1000 for the both of us for a 6-month term, which was for a $1000 deductible. They paid 80/20 after that. Just enough to keep you outta debt is all.

Brock's quote seems too good to be true.

Fortis is great until you have a claim. They were thrown out of New York State for not paying claims and in fact no longer sell insurance here for that reason. Check them out before you pay.

Thanks for the info. I called Fortis at the number given in the prior post and was informed that Fortis is now Assurant Health. You can visit them on the web at:

www.temporaryinsurance.com (http://www.temporaryinsurance.com)

I was quoted on a 6 month premium for my wife and I; here are the results for two people, age 25, and based on paying the premium up front:

$761.00 for a $500 deductible
$621.25 for a $1000 deductible

Not bad ~ breaks down to $51.75/mo/person based on a $1000 deductible which would most likely be the way we lean...

Again, thanks for the feedback!

Keith

I did a search on the web before my hike and found a bunch of options and compared. It's not too hard to do that, although you may have more confidence going with a company you know or are referred to.
