i'm going to be using tyvek for a "door matt" entering my tent.... my question for folks who know this material. can i bawl it up like a piece of paper, or should i fold it up? also heard you can wash the stuff to make it more plyable.... thanks

You can fold it or ball it up, but I feel like balling it up would be a terrible usage of space.

If you wash it, or soak it in water for a while, it'll be easier to fold up, but the best benefit is that it gets much quieter.

You can wash it, makes it more pliable (and yes, quieter). I use it for my footprint. Much cheaper than buying one.

Using tyvek to cover the bare ground in the vestibule area(s) of your tent can help reduce condensation problems as well. It acts as a vapor barrier, less moisture in the vestibule space equals less condensation on the inside of your tent. And, yes, wash it, then either fold it or roll it.

Where do you get Tyrek the size big enough for a footprint?

The only problem with using Tyvek for a mat is it picks up small twigs and pieces of stuff, and, they are hard to get rid of without spending a lot of time to pick them off. Also, it tends to slide around quite a bit when you step on it.

Home Depot, Lowe's or maybe even a construction site if you can give the foreman a couple bucks.
