If you are leaving in late May, there's no way you'll need the kind of cold weather gear you have listed. I mean you'll probably get a few cool nights to start, but I'd scale back big time your clothes. It will rapidly heat up and then get oppressive the farther south you get. Need to think summertime by late May. In southern PA at the end of May we hit 100 degree heat index in '07. Think summer and heat and humidity with "maybe" a few cool nights thrown in early on only.

Your list is doubled at the end, so it's confusing. Leave home camp suds, solar charger (ours didn't work good, honestly), balaclava, long underwear, puff jacket, vest (keep the fleece pullover for early on), gloves, one long sleeve shirt
what's your bag rating - won't need anything below 30 degree
switch from tablets to aqua mira and leave filter at home
switch to trail runners (boots not needed and are gonna cause blister issues)
one lexan spoon is all you need to eat with
Bic lighter instead of matches
zinc oxide for what? If you're thinking chafing, take some body glide (which I would do anyway with a summer start)
nalgene bottles are heavy - go with Aq2ua fina bottles or the like and take a 3 liter playtpus for camp water or to haul water (which can happen by NY and PA if low water this winter).

here is a possible gear list i have created for a section hike from bear mountain to spring this summer, i will be doing bear to katahdin next summer. I will be leaving in mid to late may after college

· Clothing
o Smart wool ultra light crew socks (X2 or X3) wear one / carry one
o Sock liners (X2 or X3) (dry fit) i'd skip
o Rain jacket (Patagonia rainshadow)or Packa
o Gloves (north face apex?) just some light wool or fleece liners - patagonia?
o Short sleeve shirt X2 (dry fit) under armour
o Long sleeve Shirt (X2) (dry fit) under armour omit - you've got fleece and s/s
o Fleece (Patagonia ¼ zip)
o Vest (Patagonia) leave it behind
o Patagonia nano puff jacket or nano puff pull over for nights in camp
o Zip-off pants just go with shorts
o Under armour compression boxers X2 x1 day
o Under armour loose boxers x1 night
o Seirus Dynamax Quick Combo Balaclava i don't even use one of these in the dead of winter
o Long underwear (smartwool or polyester?) polyester
o Sil-nylon stuff sack for cloths
· Camping
o LL bean AT 55 pack
o go lite shangri-la bundle tent
o go lite adventure 1 season long
o Compression sack for sleeping bag
o Sleeping pillow? (Probably not) yes, not
o Therm-a-rest z-lite pad
o Head lamp Small LED instead?
o Bens bug spray
o fork, spoon and knife all in one one spork? + small pocketknife is more useful - cutting cord or something with your fork is weird
o Jetboil zip stove
o Gas for stove
o First aid kit/repair kit most people carry about 3x the 1st aid stuff they actually need
§ Zinc oxide ?
§ Chlorine dioxide tablets ?? (water treatment?) - just use aqua-mira or bleach or nothing
o Katadyn pro hiker filtration system (leave it at home - really - most common item sent home - like a boat anchor in you pack - it will clog, trust me)
o Rope for bear bag (50 feet) (you won't really need to hang that much - just 30' of 3mil cord is way plenty)
o Water Proof stuff sack for food
o No-see-um head net
· Hiking
o Mid length to low cut hiking boots (go with trail shoes NOT boots)
o Hiking poles
o 3 liter bladder for pack or 2 nalgene bottles (I'd suggest one nalgene and 1 bladder - or gatorade bottle)

· Miscellaneous
o Pocket knife, LL bean mini knife (see above - just do the spork for eating)
o Duct tape (just wrap a little bit around a trekking pole - that's all you need)
o Waterproof matches
o Journal
o Pen
o AT guidebook
o compact camera
o Toilet paper
o Dental care (cut a toothbrush in half, put it in a ziplock with some tooth powder and 2' of floss - keep in food bag)
o Light weight digital wrist watch
o Sun screen (it's a green tunnel most of the way - just a tiny amount - certainly not a whole bottle)
o Wallet, ID, money (skip a wallet - just make one with a little duct tape)
o Camp soap (one ounce of Dr. Bronners is plenty)
o Daily vitamin
o Sil-nylon stuff sack
§ Toiletries (what does this mean? you have a toothbrush and powder - that's it.)
§ Pen and journal
§ At companion book (you just listed the "guidebook" above - I just tear out the pages I need)
§ Camp soap (previously mentioned)
o Plastic bags for oddities
§ Cell phone and charger
§ First aid kit + pocket knife (previously mentioned)
§ Water proof matches
§ Whistle (completely unnecessary unless you are a mute)
§ Wallet, money, ID
o Cell phone
o Solar powered charger (won't work - leave your phone powered OFF - don't turn it on ever unless you have an emergency - it'll last 6-7 days easy)
o High absorption towel
o Stuff sack and trash bag for trash (just re-use zip locks in your food bag for trash)
o Whistle

Blissful gave you a pretty good shake down too - you are thru-hiking (Bear Mtn to Springer at least qualifies you as someone who should hike in that context) - you are not "thru-camping"

thank you for the advice guys. i am an eagle scout and they dont teach you how to pack light at all, one of my complaints of BSA. packing for every possibility is pounded into every scouts head. because of that i am not use to lightweight backpacking, i have been trying to learn though

my bag is rated 40 degree
