Not through hiking, but a piece of advice. Whatever you use make sure you have already used it enough to be comfortable relying on it before you start your thru. If in doubt bring an actual tent.

I am kind of stuck in tent mode...did 12 years of wandering around the desert southwest (not trails, backcountry) and enjoyed NOT waking to scorpions and snakes in bed with me!!

I have to go with the tent, I don't believe I would change my mind,however I reserve the right to change , if I decide to.

Tent for me and really like the idea of pitching tent in shelter...mice running across my head creeps me out.
