New York to Maine? or Maine to New York

Hey guys, I plan on doing part of the trail this summer. I'm going to school both Spring and Fall semesters so it'd be impossible to get the whole trail done in the time I have off, but I figure I could take a month or so and complete a section.

2 questions:

1. I live in New York, and plan on leaving late May/early June. Would it make more sense to start in New York and go northbound to Maine? or visa versa.
2. Is completing this section in around a month realistic at an average pace? I'm willing to take up to 2 months on the trail, but coming home on/by July 4th would be ideal.

Its about 800 miles, some of it quite challanging. What do you think?

Take you longer than a month to get to Katahdin, that's for sure. More like two just starting out. Just go north from NY and see how far you get. Probably NH border.

I'm also planning on hiking from either Katahdin south or NY area north.. and i have been looking for a partner

If you mean backpacking: NY to Maine.
If you mean moving: Def NY to Maine.
