Hello fellow hikers! I'm planning a 4 to 5 day hike in mid March anywhere in NC/TN or Southern VA area, and was thinking about Davenport Gap to Hot Springs. I would love to get some input. Too cold during this time of year? Is there someplace better? Just looking for some solitude and a chance to enjoy a few days of hiking. Thanks and be safe.

Doc Mike, Thanks a million for the suggestion. I hiked Grayson Highlands last year with my daughters and they loved the area. Great place!

Two years ago some buddies and I hiked the Grayson/Rogers area and there was a ton of snow! We post holed for two straight days. The bottom floor of the Mt Rogers shelter was covered in snow. We had a difficult time finding blazes one of the days in deep pine forest because there was no way we could follow a "trail." We walked about 2 miles that morning in 4 hours. Beautiful country, but beware.

Oh, the reason I said all that, it was mid-march.

Thanks for the "hiker beware" tip. We were in the area in late April and there was still a lot of snow as well. Again, thanks.

How about Davenport Gap to Hot Springs? Anyone have suggestions on that section of the AT in Mid-March?
The winter has been crazy here in Greensboro, NC this year. Very, very warm!
