So I've been sectioning for 2 years and we have always stayed at or near the shelters. But our mileage for this year's 80 mile hike does not lend itself to but a couple nights around shelters. Does this stretch of the A.T. have plenty of spots clear enough for 2 tents? Or are they few and far between?

Thanks!

Yes, lots of camping places. One of my faves is Siler's Bald. There's also Cheoh Bald and Wayah Bald. You can cowboy on the Wesser Fire Tower. Those are some of my faves because there are great views. I'm sure others can name lots of places like Burningtown Gap, Wayah gap. There will be lots to choose from. Have fun.

Tons of spots. But many are not near water if that's important to you. :)

Tons of spots. But many are not near water if that's important to you. :)One option that I always find attractive is to eat an early-ish dinner at or a few miles before a water source. Fill up all of my water containers at the water source (2.5-3L for me) and dry camp. That gives me enough water for a hearty breakfast plus a few hours to reach the next water source.
