Hi All,

Heading to Damascus tomorrow to pick back up on my section hike from last year (Springer start). Is the Place open yet?

I stayed there in 1999 as a section hiker. During that time I met people that used The Place as a starting or ending point for a section hike. I remember reading on this board that they had some problems. Have their policies changed?

I thought it wasn't available to section hikers because I wasn't able to get a shower there.

it's open to section hikers who are walking thru town but if you have a vehicle you're not allowed to use it

Innovative marketing! Threaten to close makes more people want to use it. They just need the penguin from the Blues Brothers to collect the donations and smack the rule breakers with a yard stick.

They have Lone Wolf for that.

It will if hikers follow the rules, and don't stiff the church to much.

Not to hijack the thread, but isn't Dave's Place still open? If you're on a tight budget, I don't think they charge much and you can also just pay a small fee for a shower if you're not staying overnight (at least you could when I was there).

I don't have a dog in this -- the two times I've overnighted in Damascus, I stayed at the Lazy Fox B&B.

The Place is $6. Dave's Place is $20

I always drop $10 and do a chore before I leave.

Days and miles go much easier when you do the right thing.

If you're just looking for a shower, you can get one for about $2 at Sun Dog Outfitter or Adventure Damascus. It's a service for drive-in Creeper Trail riders, but it has been there for me when I walk into Damascus at the end of a hike and want to clean up before I drive home.
