Keep in mind (other threads have touched on this more than enough). Making do with what I had (for the most part). NOT planning on towns/repair stops/motels/hostels/civilization. This is what I will survive off of. Something breaks - I'd better fix it - I break - I'd better press on. I need juice for camera/phone - wait until food resupply day. Only time civilization will see me is when I'm resupplying food, pickup up a mail drop, or hanging with others in the woods!

Here's the official final gear list (with weights - every ounce weighed and accounted for). Non-flyable items were shipped ahead today to friends picking me up from Atlanta.

Good luck. Just did an overnighter with 35lbs on my back, preparing for a week long trek in May. 30 minutes in I'm saying to my self, how can I get rid if some weight? No way am I going to have more then 27lbs (including water) strapped on me. I'm a little older then you, but 6'2" 210lbs. I suggest losing some items. Others are going to tell you what to lose.

Thanks! I've done some pretty grueling "hikes" or marches or crawls with heavier packs for some pretty wild distances. My body is going to feel it the first month for sure, my lower back and right knee (MCL) are two huge points of concern, but nothing that'll keep me from trudging through.

There are obvious "lose this" items on the list (book and photography equip being the main two for almost 42.7 (2.66 lbs). - gym shorts - maybe 1 less long sleeve shirt - switch to gatorade bottles instead. The coat is the one thing I've gone back and forth on - but I expect some chilly nights - and it was either that or a hoodie to hang out around camp in, and the coat was lighter. When the weather stays stable and warm, it'll get mailed back.

Even sitting here I'm thinking I may shed a single lens and the book. I'm trying to determine if I'll really need my telephoto out there. I know I want my 10mm and then a "normal" lens.

My goal is to stay as light as I can - while still being able to accomplish things I want to do (reading/writing/photography) while not spending a day hiking. All that while still balancing the larger goal of being in the 10% or whatever that finishes. I'd be nice to see at some of their starting and then ending pack weights.

Ok. Final clearly means not final. Even looking it over/thinking about it now that the task is done has helped.

I'm shaving the 2012 NOBO Guide, Machine Man (loading some digital books onto the phone and using sparingly), a telephoto lens, and cut some duplication out of my oh shi- repair bag.

That saved me 34.4 (2.15lbs).

Thinking/adding to this thread out loud.... the gym shorts and extra long sleeve (but man they get stinky, was going to be nice to have a backup) is 14.5 (.9 lbs) that I can shave. Bringing the total loss for 48.9 (3.05 lbs). Ok. Yeah, consider those things removed.

Thinking of changing my outfit to red shorts, white shirt, blue hat...

Or maybe just going super commando and wrapping myself in an American flag. That'll shave all sorts of weight.

Don't need the sunglasses. The tree cover will do that for you.
