Just read this obituary posted today on Facebook: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/gainesville/obituary.aspx?n=william-gordon-luttge&pid=156745332

I met Fireball during his '04 thruhike. We shared Big Spring Shelter along with some others on a cold snowy night. He was an interesting and energetic guy. That night was a source of amusement. He stopped by the shelter for a break and continued on, only to return an hour later when he realized he had turned the wrong way and hiked back the way he came. He knew he went wrong when he reached the Albert Mountain tower.

I was section hiking at the time with my thruhiking friend Northern Harrier. 2 months later in Shenandoah when I gave Harrier some Trail Magic, I met Fireball again. Later in NJ I met his wife {"Hot Chocolate") who was following in a van and meeting him every few days.

May he Rest in Peace.
