I drove by there yesterday, and there was a new layer of snow on the mountain tops. I'm looking to do Passaconaway and Whiteface first this year, so I paid extra attention. Also, drove back on Kang - mixed snow pack at higher elevations on the highway - pass is 2800 or so feet. I assume more once you start climbing, although there will certainly be south facing areas without snow cover.

Yea, that site he linked had folks who did the whiteface/passaconway loop this weekend and needed at least micro spikes. guess i'll have to wait a bit longer to get on that stuff.

The welch Dickey loop is always a fine hike this time of year. South Moat is also good for early hiking.

W-D would be an easy day hike. Am climbing at rumney this weekend so maybe go up earlier friday or stay and go monday shrug we'll see Moat is too far north at the moment.
