Side note: The word Easter comes from the ancient worship of the goddess Ester (spelling in question). She was a fertility goddess (hence the bunnies and the eggs).
Jesus was the sacrificial Passover lamb for all men for all time, according to Christian scriptures.
Maybe happy Passover would be a more Biblical greeting. :)
I Googled and found Oestere as one of the many forms of the name for the fertility goddess, or the goddess of renewal. Why we do what we do is a subject of interest to me. We often live too automatically, thoughtlessly.
