Greetings all! A friend and I are looking for a good 3 day hike somewhere Western/Southern Virginia or possibly in North Carolina. We're in good shape, seasoned campers, and are just looking for some advice on where to go, how to get there, and mileage of a 3 day hike or any good tips you can provide. We want to get away from it and reconnect with nature. Thanks for any advice and help you can be!

Drive to Damascus, VA. Contact Lone Wolf here on WB about shuttling; if he can't do it, he'll suggest someone. Leave your car in Damascus, have your shuttler take you to Fox Creek/Rt. 603. Hike on the AT southbound back to Damascus. 40 miles going through Grayson Highlands SP and passing summmit of Mt. Rogers. You'll like it!

And you'll probably meet some thruhikers. If you're seeking to hike with less company, drive to Pearisburg, VA, leave car and get shuttle from Ratface (Don) Raines to Sinking Creek Valley/Rt. 42. Hike 40 miles south back to Pearisburg.

If you don't want to deal with the shuttle, park your car in Damascus and hike the Iron Mountain Trail north out of town and then connect with the AT south to get back to town. I did it last winter and it was a great hike. If you don't know, the IMT is the old AT, so it is a beautiful trail with the same shelters and water sources you would expect to find on the AT. The only think missing is the crowds. Pickup the NatGeo map for the area. It is alot better than the "official" AT map.

Approximately how many miles per day are we talking here? Also, are there any towns along the way one could stop off in to check out for a brief jaunt? Thanks
