I'm headed NOBO pretty soon, I was wondering where it is easy to get from airports to the trail, especially places where there are shuttles or a way that we don't need two cars. My sistser is meeting up with me at Harper's ferry, as she is around DC. Any other places that are relatively easy to get to? I'm sure hikers of years past have hit this same predicament.

Cookerhiker will probably chime in, as he has become quite knowledgeable with using public transport to get to the AT.
In addition to that check out the ATC's liist on available transportation and shuttles.

Anyplace between Davenport Gap and Marion VA is acessible to shuttles. Fly into Asheville or Tri-Cities Airport, rent a car, get shuttled from Hot Springs, Erwin, Dennis Cove or Damascus.

Roanoke is easy to fly to, and because the trail arcs around the Roanoke area, a whole lot of the trail is reasonably close. There are a few hundered miles of trail accessible within about a two hour drive either way from Roanoke on the interstate. Some nice sections, too, like Mt. Rogers / Grayson Highlands, Damascus, McAfee Knob, etc.
