Gossamer Gear sells some crazy-light trekking poles, and an adaptor to allow you to screw your camera into the top of the handle, effectively turning it into a mono-pod.

ALL good advice I like the stick pic and I also have drilled my sticks and added the aluminum screw by removing the strap and inserting the screw from the hole with a decent rubber cement. The compass here was a bit of a joke for near sighted folk. You get the idea.
