Has anyone seen this wonderful independent movie? Charlie Sheen's son Emilio Estevez wrote and directed this 2010 movie. You'll see the details on the imdb website. Blueray is rentable on Netflix. I highly recommend the film.

This comes up a lot as you can see, and I'm sure there are more. It's a good movie that hits hard with people that love to walk, or at least the idea of long walks, so it's no surprise that this comes up with such frequency.

Do you know how I know you didn't search for "The Way"? You'll get no results if you use the search in Whiteblaze. You have to search with something like Google to get results.
Great Film. Cant help but notice everyone wearing jeans though... that would be brutal
So why can't the Whiteblaze search find these?
Seems folks should quit ridiculing others for not searching if the search feature doesn't work.

The route is more of a town-to-town stop that is not really an outdoor experience. Not a bad thing, but different. So, while jeans would not be my first choice for any kind of long walking (even in an urban or rural environment), probably not a deal breaker for this type of trek.

FWIW, a friend of mine saw a presentation on the Camino recently. Apparently it is a very bike-friendly route as well.
So why can't the Whiteblaze search find these?

It says they are both common words, so it refuses to search for it. Unfortunately Whiteblaze sees a search for the term "the way" the same way as it sees a search for the words "the" & "way", so it just can't do it. Even if those weren't common words, it seems Whiteblaze also has a limit on how long words have to be, so it can't find terms like "msr" or "pct" either, at least not when I just tried it using a couple different advanced search options.

I have found the Whiteblaze search tool useless. Instead when I want to find something, I go back to Google, enter my search terms plus Whiteblaze. Finds what I want everytime.

why is this?
makes sense. I searched for two words that are too common....somehow I had "Way" on my mind from the movie instead of real life. Appreciate the input about using Google and "whiteblaze" for better searches...I'd prefer that method anyway, especially if I was running this website.

Well, ok the explanation about search seems to explain it a bit. If this is such a known phenomenon however, it still seems that the old-timers on here should quit harassing everyone who repeats a question, or asks about a topic that has already been discussed. Snarky "If you would search you would find..." or "search is your friend" comments seem out of place if it is known that one must leave the site to perform a useful search.

I watched the movie last night and really enjoyed it. I think it's good for other people to help understand how a trail can be so much isolation and so much a social event. It also shows how the bonds occure and the strong feelings within a "trail family". After watching, I did the search with no results. I'm sure glad I didn't start a thread, or I would have taken a beating!

As for wearing jeans,we don't take them on our overseas travels because they are way to hard to wash and dry out without using laundromats. We take clothing that we can wash out in the hotel/hostel/B&B sink/tub and hang to dry overnight. If jeans aren't washed out after a couple of wearings they really start to reek, whether the wearer realizes it or not. We were on a trek trip in South America and had an older guy from Australia on the trip who wore jeans. No one could sit next to him without gagging. He insisted his jeans were "clean enough." And of course if it rains, they get heavy and soaked and take forever to dry out, and they can chafe.

I just watched this movie because I had heard a lot about it in the hiking community. I didn't expect to like it, but I absolutely LOVED it. It basically tells the tale of a man who transforms his life by making a pilgrimage to the Santiago de Compostella when his only child dies while hiking it. I expected it to be predictable and trite, but I think the film truly captured so much. Emilio Estavez wrote, directed, and produced it and did a brilliant job in my opinion.
