Hey all,

I was out last weekend and my hammock kicked the bucket around 3:30 AM Sunday morning! It was an old net hammock my dad bought for us kids when we were young so I wasn't too surprised when the line snapped. I also was covered with bug bites on my hands/feet so I am realizing I need to replace my hammock and find some sort of bug protection. I like the Hennessy Hammock idea, but I have a nice sil-nylon tarp that I just purchased and don't want to spend that much. Does anyone have any inexpensive ideas for a hammock/bug net combo or any suggestions? Thanks!

I have 2 hammocks. My old standby is a Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Pro, which I have used for the past 19 months. It is a single layer, gathered end mosquito hammock with full net. To keep the skeeters off the bottom, I have treated with permethrin (never been bit since). I just got a (second hand) Warbonnet Blackbird 1.1 oz double layer. I love my Skeeter Beeter, but by comparison, the Blackbird is a real gem! Skeeter Beeters are about $70; Blackbirds about $170.

Much more info on hammocks can be found at www.hammockforums.net (http://www.hammockforums.net).

ask and ye shall receive.

Economical, and rugged. Also not too heavy when compared to others.

I have the original camping hammock and also an expedition. Both are fantastic.

One oft ignored benefit of the claytors is they are not as long so you can use a shorter tarp.

Your last one lasted years, a Hennessy will do the same... sorry to say----- suck it up...Use the Hennessy with the new tarp... most of us do.(from experience) Don't understand?

Most Hammock folk do just that

take a serious hammock and add a sill or premium tarp

Well, I just made a gathered end hammock from 1.9 oz ripstop nylon from Hancock Fabrics and suspended it with Amsteel blue. And my bugnet is $1 yard black tulle from WalMart with pockets to hold rocks to weigh it down. Everything works great!!

Yea KK it is - I realize I was a little rude up above to a new person, and I apologize for that, but you can pick up a used "all in one" HH for $90 on Hammockforum or here. We have all tried to do it cheaper and all we do is pay more. my Byer Mosquito doesn't like my weight or getting in on the side..HH holds up.
