I would add Pearisburg, Va. to the list. The trail may not go right down Main Street, but it does go through the town limits, crosses several of the town's streets, and hikers can access many of the town's resources with minimal or no deviation from the AT.

This is the list of towns for which there is a map in The A.T. Guide, listed south to north. These might be considered the “primary” trail towns, though there’s more than any one thru-hiker would visit. I put a * in front of the ones that the trail goes right through. The trail skirts Wind Gap, PA and Salisbury, CT. It goes between Elk Park/Roan Mtn, Bear Mtn/Fort Montgomery, and Williamstown/N. Adams and some “stuff” is very near the trailhead. umm.... no. at least not with a * in front of it. where the trail crosses culvers gap at 206 might technically be branchville, but it is nowhere near town.

West Hartford, VT--was it omitted intentionally because of Irene damage last fall? Nothing was open when we hiked through last October--is that still the case?

The West Hartford Village Store was rebuilding this past winter and should be open for business. The library is another story. Not sure when it might reopen.

The West Hartford PO and Library are closed and I was told (just a couple weeks ago) that neither would be open this summer. The Village store *is* open and, since the PO is closed, they've added maildrops to their list of services.
