It's extremly heavy and expensive on account of being made for the military. Unless you plan on fighting insurgents I'd recommend something much lighter cheaper and maybe bigger.

Thanks. I have been messing around trying to buy a pack for a couple months now. Think I will just bite the bullet and get a new one. Every time I think I am on a good used one it is either sold before I make contact or I have second thoughts.

Have you checked out the REI-outlet? I doubt you'll find the packs that tend to get recommended on here as ideal but there tends to be options that are more suited for what you're doing than what you were looking at getting.

Any advice on which one?

Flash 65...great pack, light, and only $105 at the online outlet.

Just read the review and think I will purchase. I understand that rei has a great return policy but at 5'8" and 165 do you think a medium is about right?

Pack size is determined by your torso length. Read REI's pack fitting info and you can determine the correct size.

Im not sure their return policy applies to the online outlet purchases but you can double check. Everybody I know who have this pack love it. I would have one if I had an extra hundred bucks! If there is an REI near you they will gladly size you for the pack.

Looks like I have one 55 miles south in Franklin TN. Going there for an errand Monday so I will add a visit to the agenda.

Cool going to REI and seeing what fits you comfortably is a good idea. My favorite pack makers are Osprey, Granite Gear and ULA, though I'm not seeing those one sale. But anything there as long as it's big enough and fits you well will be better than what you were looking at.
