I’m planning a Section hike of the Appalachian Trail. The following is my basic idea. Any advise or input would be welcomed

Date: Oct 7 – Oct 13
Distance: ~80 miles
Starting Point: Delaware Water Gap, NJ
Ending Point: Greenwood Lake, NY
Oct 6 – Equipment check and review (Check 10 Day Weather Forecast and adjust as needed)
Day 1 Sun Oct 7: Get dropped off at the Rt.80 Trail Head and Hike to Back Packers Camp Site North of Mill Brook Village 13.3 Miles
Day 2 Mon Oct 8: Hike to Brink Shelter Stokes State Forest 11.3 Miles
Day 3 Tue Oct 9: Hike to High Point Shelter 19.5 Miles
Day 4 Wed Oct 10: Hike to Pochuck Shelter 13 Miles
Day 5 Thur Oct 11: Hike to Wawayanda Shelter 11 Miles
Day 6 Fri Oct 12: Hike to Greenwood Lake ~11 Miles. Stay at a local inn Friday Night if possible
Day 7 Sat Oct 13: Catch Mass Transit back to New Brunswick and then get a ride home.

Sounds fine. The deli in Unionville makes huge awesome sandwiches. I stayed at the church in Vernon and I'm glad I did. Up until High Point it's still pretty rocky but after that it's smooth sailing from what I recall.

Good-looking plan and what's best is you're hiking at a great time of year. Have fun!

Just to mention, Martz Trailways goes to DWG from NYC with stops along the way in NJ.

I just put my request for the Week of Oct 7th off and ran the idea past my wife, who was surprisingly okay with the me doing the hike. Her only question was whether I intended to do the hike solo or not.

Hopefully by Oct, the mosquitos at Brinks Shelter will be gone! Otherwise, bring lots of DEET and a head net!

I'd hike a week later to get the most out of the colors.

It's a great hike. I did it SOBO last summer with my pup. I might find another spot to spend a night in lieu of brinks Road. It has a nice spring but I was not too impressed with the overall "ambiance" of the shelter. I spent the night near Buttermilk Fall campsite. I don't know how people do it in the summer-the mosquitoes were unbearable. Have a great hike.

I had two friends that had shown interest in doing this hike with me. Both have now backed out. Looks like I'm going solo.
