I'm a Wyoming boy who wants to hike from DWG to Katahdin from June to August in 2014. I use a 2 lb 20 degree bag out west. Is this too much for the summer in NH, VT and ME? Thanks!

Tough call. It can be 90+ in New England in the summer. It can also be in the 30's at night. I've always picked up my cold weather bag at Glencliff, NH. That usually happens sometime in August. I've been thankful to have it many times.

Should be ideal. If it's hot out, unzip you bag and use it as a quilt.

I agree with the Feral one.

It depends - do you have a warmer weather bag and at what temp is it rated? Personally, I'd take my 45 degree down bag plus my 15 degree liner. There may be cold night or two but when I section-hiked all of Maine mid-August to mid-September, I was only cold on one night.

Bring a hat - not just for the option of sleeping with in on but also for early morning.

I am more concerned with it being too warm. I hike above 9,000 ft all summer in Wyoming and generally use my 20 degree bag opened as a blanket. If it really gets cold I put on my long underwear and hat. I'm just wondering if a lighter bag would be more benefical and just put another layer on if it is a cold night.

Seriously, I'd save a pound and bring a 35 or 40 degree bag, and would also bring a hat as suggested. you can always wear everything you've got if it gets colder. (do you pack a Buffalo robe?)

I quit packing the buffalo robe when I turned 50!
