Does anyon ehave good suggestions on ho wto ship your pack on a plane? I know how "carefull" they handle luggage and would like to start with a pack which doesn't look like I just finished my hike. Any ideas or your best way to ship.............thanks

Put it inside some kind of light duffel bag. Either mail the duffel home or ditch it at the start.

I had a duffel bag with my poles, stove, pocket knife, and tent stakes, and peanut butter in it. Took my Z-rest and sort of wrapped it around the poles to reduce the chances of something hitting and snapping them. Checked the duffel. Everything else I left in my pack (GoLite Jam), and took that as a carry-on. Had no issues taking it as a carry-on at that point.

Use the plastic bags the airline/airport provides.

United managed to snap the frame on an external kelty back in the 90's. I recommend a large box with packing materials if possible.

I went to the local discount store and bought the cheapest suitcase I could find that was big enough for my pack and poles...it cost about $25. My wife and I spent our first night in Georgia at a B&B in Atlanta, and I gave the suitcase to the owner who was happy to have it.

I've used the big cloth storage sack that comes with sleeping bags, and mail it back home or donate it someone else who might use it.

I did the suitcase thing and it worked great. I got one at Good Will for 15 dollars. I unpacked my pack and placed it in the suitcase with my hiking poles. When I arrived at Hikers Inn I gave it to the owners and they got rid of it for me.

Mail it ahead of time to the PO. Or ship it UPS to a hostel or the like. With UPS, you can even know it arrived before you leave. Otherwise, I vote for using a cheap duffel bag to protect your stuff and check it in.

Old school Army duffel (aka seabag) works great. You can get them pretty cheap at manty thriftstores or your local Army Surplus shop.
