View Full Version : Fire in the Smokies??
I have been watching the Look Rock Cam in the Smokies and there has been a lot of smoke for the last couple of hours. Now that it is getting dark, it looks like there is flames..... :(

An article in Asheville Citizen-Times, Apr 9, says dogwoods doubled in number in an area that was burned in a wildfire in the 1970s, while they are dying elsewhere throughout the forest. So controlled burns to save the dogwoods are being contemplated.

I think Stoker is correct, looks more like Top of the World is having a fire.

It was/is a prescribed burn. The article says it is the largest prescribed burn in the parks history.(I wonder if it was supposed to be the largest when they first started?)

There is also a brief summary here. Read the first article about the guys that were arrested and take note that they had a sword. :jump This of course was not related to the fire.

Control Burns.... Wish the Palmetto Brush wouldn't grow back. They just seem to get thicker after a burn.
