I'm looking for a new scale to weigh my gear. My last scale seems off and I'd like something that is very precise this time around.

Any recommendations?

Thanks.

I use two scales.

For individual items, I use a kitchen scale from Target. It weights items up to 10 lbs. It does not handle larger items well (like backpacks), but I figure out a way to make it work. It measures down to a 1/10th ounce or a gram.

I also have a hanging fish scale. This is nice to use for full packs, as it has a hook on which to hang it. It's range goes up to to 50 lbs, I believe; and it measures to the nearest ounce. I believe I picked this up at Wal Mart for a reasonable price.

I have three scales I use,a digital bathroom scale that is accurate to a 1/10 of a lb. a 3 triple beam scale that is good the the gram but don't like working in grams and then converting to lbs.and oz.,and a cheap small kitchen scale that goes up to 3lb and measures in oz. this scale has been calibrated with the triple beam, and dead balls accurate to the oz.,and the one I use the most when assessing choices,1.49 all plastic ugly green, dollar store, can't beat it.....when all is said and done, and all the gear loaded in the pack and weighd on my bathroom scale,it is only off by a couple 1/10ths of a lb. compared to the running total amounts of all the gear.....good enough for the girls I hike with.

when did the dollar store sell items of more than a dollar, definitely not the 5-10 of yesteryear!

I have an Escali brand kitchen scale that measures up to 5 kilos in grams, or 11 pounds in tenths of an ounce. Looks just like this (http://www.amazon.com/Escali-P115C-Digital-Multifunctional-Chrome/dp/B0007GAWRS/), only mine is red.

When you purchase one of these little drug scales so that you measure a quarter of an ounce, you will know that you have offically rounded the bend and gone off the deep end.

The only weight thats important is the weight on your back; a bathroom scale is all you need.

So when I take stuff to work and use the scale in the chemistry lab that measures to the nearest milligram (0.000035 oz), what does that make me??? :-?

PS - I'm not really a mg weenie, but when you work in a chemistry department, there's no need to buy a scale. However, I do need to use a kitchen scale to weigh big things.
And unlike others, I find lbs and oz very annoying - GO METRIC :banana

Take your heavy items with you on your next doctor's visit . Those scales are supposed to be accurate ,
and then can weigh very heavy people ! DVW

I have this and weighs everything except my back. It's amazing the difference in weight of simple items like t-shirts or shorts.
