Bought my first hammock the other day. I enjoy it in the yard but really need a tarp for when I take my trips. I wanna to DIY it preferably. Any tips and suggestions would be helpful.

DIY hammock tarp - http://gear-report.com/how-to-make-a-diy-camping-hammock-tarp-myog/ is a starting point. If your Google-foo is strong, you'll find lots of other sites with designs and instructions.

Chadd you left out what you bought, my experience has been to buy a Noah and it was too big, I sold it and Had General make me one that I liked. Since then I have met Stormcrow and he has a business making 4 season cuben that are awesome. See my Gallery. Or click below this on Hammock Forums.

Should I bring a four season tarp with doors or a large tarp without doors?

Thanks for the advice guys. The brand I bought which I will probably hear a bunch of criticism but I don't mind. I actually got from Wally world for around 24 bucks and my logic behind this was. That I would rather buy this one than an eno or Hennessy for triple the price and find I don't like to hang.

Actually Chad, that's good logic. It's crazy to spend a fortune on something that you may or may not enjoy. My hammock tarp is a rain fly from a cheap Coleman tent. It worlds great and it isn't that heavy. Before it I would bring a roll of cheap painters drop plastic. I plan to pick up a good tarp sometime soon but just haven't really needed to yet.

We have done that before, my first was Byer Mosquito - then one night I ended upside down and on the ground and realized side entry wasn't for me. I found a used HH and have been happy since. Here is the latest shack attack....

That's an HH with a custom General's Tarp for more coverage, and stealth. You could possibly get by with a large Sil poncho as in dual use gear... I have to put that to the test.

Here is a link to a DIY Cuben tarp that SGT Rock made. There is a video that shows all the steps. Cuben is expensive when compared to other materials, but is really light. Hope this helps.

Totally agree with spending little money at first. My 1st tarp was a practically free one made from tyvek. Sure glad it didn't rain that trip!
