I wanted to know if anyone had any experience with ZPack's sleeping bags? http://www.zpacks.com/quilts/sleepingbag.shtml

The weight is very appealing and the price is pretty good when compared to WM. I also am looking for something that I could use for the duration of an AT through hike and want to know is anyone has used a 10* or 20* bag for the duration without switching out? And if so how it went.

Thanks in advance!

You need to state your starting date for your thru.

A 20 should be OK. You may have a couple chilly nights early on but extra clothing should get you by. IMO a 10 is overkill.

And is it vital to switch that out for a lighter bag? Or will that be fine blanket style for the rest of the trip do you think?

Blanket or quilt style is my preferred method of use. I only get IN the bag on cold nights. Sorry, I can't help you with the specific Zpacks model. I do know that they make good stuff in general.

I was just referring to any 20 degree bag essentially on that note.

If you possibly can you'll want to switch out of that 20* bag because it's going to be HOT during the late spring and summer months.

It sucks to get inside a hot tent, being dirty and sweating on a sleeping pad, with only a heavy down bag to cover up with.

Yea I suppose at the end of a long day that is the last thing you want to deal with. Summer bag it is :)

Plenty of experience folks thru with one bag. Unless finances are the reason I don't know why they would though. I will def be swapping out.

Consider also a liner (silk is lightest) for that summer bag. It's a lot easier to wash a liner than a bag - even a summer bag is going to get grimy with dirt/sweat.

A liner will protect your bag.

Any recommendations on liners that you have experience with? Or anything generally smiled upon by the community?

I use a Mont Bell silk liner but this one is just as good: http://www.rei.com/product/708744/cocoon-silk-mummy-liner.

Claims about a silk liner adding 10* to the warm rating of a bag are pretty much false...

Another good thing about a liner is that if it's really hot you can use it instead of a bag.
