For a solo hiker, what are the best options once I come out at Whitney and make it to Lone Pine...I need to get back to LA.

Can someone provide some guidance?

THANKS

Greyhound used to run I-395 & stop in Lone Pine. Also an airport there with limited service. Another option to look at is heading up to Reno & head home from there as it may be quicker.

I don't think Greyhound runs up 395 any longer. The local bus line is Eastern Sierra Transit but their website is up for sale so they may be gone too. If you can hitch to the 99, you wouldn't have a problem getting a bus. Hitching down 395 shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Here are a couple of shuttlers.

Inyo + Mono Counties have a long-distance bus service from Lancaster CA up to Reno CA with a night's stopover in Bishop CA. It's formerly known as the CREST bus, but now goes by Eastern Sierra Tranist Authority (ESTA). It's headquartered in Bishop CA.
- The Lancaster run meets up with the Los Angeles area Metrolink trains at the Lancaster train station. Metrolink has connections with Amtrak trains and airport connections downtown Los Angeles Union Station.
- The Reno run connects to the Reno Airport. It also connects up with the YART busses (Tuolumne Meadows + Yosemite Valley) at Mammoth CA.

It's been almost 30 years since I had to get up that road by bus. I hope some of this helps.

I found another site for ESTA

This will have what you need.
