Hello everyone, I have never tried out any of the GoLite tents, but they seem ideal to me. I have been looking for them for a long time. Now the price is just about right. http://www.golite.com/tents/shelters-and-tents

I am planning to use it for myself, maybe with one more person down the road. Which one would you suggest would be the most beneficial, space and weight ratio, durability, versatility, etc. Should I just purchase the top without the net and floor? Or should I better just purchase the whole package?

Thanks. This post might not be very clear, but I'd like to have a general idea which direction I should go to.

I'd say if you definately want to use it with others got with the 2 or 3. I have a 3 and a 5. They are both very good, lightweight, and economical shelters. The one thing about the 3 is that set-up is a little fussier than a square or rectangular mid, not a deal breaker but worth considering. While I have not used the SL2 my guess would be that it might set up a little more intuitively (only four "corners") but the I think the SL3 in addition to being a little bigger would stand up to a little heavier weather especially in winter. BTW they all come with inners now which is nice because you have the option of bug protection when needed or lighter weight when it isn't. If it were me I would weigh how often I will really be with other people vrs solo as well as how light you want to pack and what seasons you will use it. The 1 might be nice if you are going to do all solo and three season as it is pretty light with the net and very light without compared to say the 3 and if you can find one of the 20% off coupons(given to reviewers of go-lite gear on their website) it would be really cheap ( you can buy another tent later if you find yourself needing to shelter friends or a significant other) it also seems to have a small vestibule which the others lack. The 2 is probably a good compromise choice giving plenty of protection for 3 season conditions, lots of room solo and just enough for 2 close friends. If you are definately going to go alot with another the 3 is best because as with most tent occupancy ratings this is really only comfortable for 2 and you have the option of not completely attaching the nest near the door creating a mini vestibule so that at least not raining in your sleep area when you get in or out. I think it is also the most storm worthy. I hope I didn't make it even more unclear. Happy hiking.

I just ordered this tent. It is lighter than the GoLite tent and has really good reviews.

BigBadger, thanks for the reply. The BA tent looks attempting, but it is out of my price ranger...

I have the SL3.

I think the SL3 is "just right" for two, spacious and "just right" for one: me.

It can be pitched in a smaller configuration if space available at a likely campsite is a problem.
