I am going to take a one or two day hike in early July. I will be dropping my child off at camp in Cleveland, GA on a Sunday morning and have to get back to work and other kiddos by Tuesday. I'd love to drive to a nearby entrance to the trail and do a day hike on Sunday and possibly Monday morning. From the maps I've looked at it seems that Whitley Gap is the closest place to park and enter. Would that be a good spot to start a day hike? North or South? Other recommendations? I'm 42 and run 22 miles per week, so I'm not too worried about it being too strenuous of a hike. Thanks!

it is 16 miles and 30 min to hogpen gap near whitley or 18 miles and 30 min to neel gap, so either one is good

from hogpen it's 4 miles to lowgap or 1 to whitley or from neel a couple of miles up blood mtn.... I'd do blood, if it was me ...better views

Thanks...I'm definitely not very techno savvy! I actually did recognize my posting mistake and re-posted under points of interest thread (didn't know how to move the thread, of course).

Thanks! It seems that Blood is the consensus.
