View Full Version : What section have you hiked the most time?
I'm going to hike the section from Roan Mountain back to Erwin tomorrow for about the 5th time in the last year. I've hiked the 60 miles from Hot Springs back to Erwin *at least* a half dozen times and the section between Devil's Fork Gap to Erwin more times that I even know. I know this 100 miles of AT very, very well.
What section of the AT have you hiked the most number of times?
God I hate butchering a thread title...

franconia to crawford 4 times, although ive hiked portions of the at in harriman st park countlesss times
Maybe the western section of Harriman State Park in NY, as that's my usual (or was my usual) entry point for a weekend hike. But even that, now that I think about it, isn't probably right, since I generally only started on the AT and then branched out onto other trails in the park.
So maybe the CT section of the trail... I did that a lot as a kid, and of course during my thru. Probably did that section maybe 5 or 6 times.
The 7 miles from Kent CT south to Bull Bridge at least a dozen times. I can hitch hike that loop, and I can end my walk swimming at a spectacular spot on that river. Whenever I have work in that area I find an excuse to disappear for part of the day. I've since discovered that CT has more blazed hiking trails than I knew about so have broadened my horizons. Although, I still like that walk...
Newfound Gap to Davenport Gap. Over the last 52 years? Not sure...several. But have definitely done that section the most.

I've hiked Neel Gap to Woody Gap/Woody Gap to Neel Gap 3 or 4 times a month for the last 3 years... Springer to the Georgia boarder??? 50 times??? All with my hound "SideKick"... Just finished the Georgia Loop(Duncan Ridge Trail/BMT/AT) for the 5th time in the last 18 months...
Wow, Toli, that is just about what I was going to say (not Springer to border, I've only done that 4 times)... but I'm pretty partial to GA and have spent the last two springs (March-May) hiking in GA. I haven't done the GA Loop yet, but did the Coosa in May.

Hmmm, that's a toughie.
I lived in Connecticut for most of my life and spent many, many weekends wandering around on the Riga Plateau. And I've been doing maintenance with the GMC in Vermont for decades, so I've walked and blazed and brushed and cleaned waterbars from the summit of Glastenbury Mountain north to the Arlington Rd many dozens of times. I've spent enough time on that little section of trail that I recognize individual rocks and bits of hobblebush along the way.
Fontana Dam To Hot springs 7 times, SNP 8 times. RED-DOG

The 0.9 in Connecticut from Riga Junction to the Bear Mountain summit cairn 13 times in one direction or another. I've done some other stretches twice or three times.

Springer to wherever cause its so close.
The place I've made a significant drive to get to the most is Grayson Highlands.
The place that if I could blink my eyes and be there in a moment would be somewhere in ME.

Springer to Woody seven times. Standing Indian Loop at least 4 times. Both are tied for my favorites. Did Winding Stair to the NOC 3 times. These sections are very close to my house and I love getting out as often as possible. The SI Loop is the easiest to do with little or no planning (shuttles) needed. :)

Do you find it as disheartening as I do to be clipping some of that damned hobblebush and see the marks where you clipped the same stem last year, and the year before that, and the year before that, ad infinitum?

I kind of like it, the whole circle-of-life thing. In my section, I knock it back pretty hard every couple of years, then it's just a matter of clipping the younger shoots fairly regularly. I have a pair of hedge clippers with about 3 foot long handles--very handy, and easy to clip stuff close to the ground.
