Friends of mine who live near the AT have done some volunteer clearing work. It seems, at times, differences of opinion on exactly how things are done (trail clearing/work) arise between gov agency's (ie: NPS, USFS), AT Clubs and the ATC. These problems have delayed or even canceled field trips in the past, they have since stopped volunteering because of these previous problems with scheduling/conflicts. With people wanting to help, at their expense, there should be great effort to make sure no problems arise between volunteers and anyone else. Maybe there are too many Chiefs trying to control the volunteer Indians or maybe AT Clubs are trying to keep out non-member Indians. Really doesn't matter to me, I'd just like to see the trail maintained as quickly and as good as it can be. :o
