Wow its been two weeks from one of the hikes and a few bites are festering and itching still. (Dog ticks) - On a different day put on some Teva's last week while over at my dad's yard and later found a deer tick under the strap that night. Nice ring below the ankle. Started the Doxy immediatly, but damn the Dog Tick bites are worse and still the size of quarters - even if they are not the cause of lyme they are taking longer to heal then in the past.

I think it varies from person to person.
Here we have kangaroo ticks (not Lyme carrying supposedly but a couple of possible cases now showing up), and I get recurring irritation from them for about 3 months. My son knocks them off and you can't see the mark a few days later. Very fortunate considering where one got him. :-)

The dog ticks on the eastern shore of maryland are doing the same thing to folks...long healing times...and it is on the youngsters too (age 5 and 2) not just us older folks!

My tick bites often stay red and itchy for weeks after removing the bloodsuckers, even if I pull them off within a few hours of attachment. I wouldn't worry about it.

Dink are you sure? I thought it was age related.

Ticks don't bite old people. Skin is too tough and wrinkles too deep.:D

On second thought, the old ones with beards they bite their baby faces under all that hair. They like the tender thin skin under all that shaded area.:banana

I've noticed that too. Seems like they used to heal about the same as a mosquito bite and were no big deal, these days they itch like hell and stick around for weeks. I've gotten good results using a daily dab of 7% veterinary iodine, though I wouldn't recommend it for the squeamish.

You guys would laugh I was outside this morning and sprayed the yard for weeds... looked down at my pants and saw what appeared to be a monster sized tick..... it was something similar to a Japanese beetle and brown.

I will try the iodine - I keep human surgical strength in the cabinet... The vet stuff gets me barking like a dog....

Iodine is a hallucinogenic. Drinking it will cause small insects to appear much larger. Use it as a topical antiseptic.:p
