Got ten freinds over and had so many appetizers we barely made it to the monster burgers.... then dropped $300 on fireworks for the teens to light. The neighbors have "got" used to it. The dogs didn't:cool:

Wrapped up a five day trip to the White Mtns in New Hampshire with two of my Army friends from the good old days and enjoyed an outstanding display by mother nature of some natural fireworks while staying in Shelter 6 at Hermit Lakes. The bourbon and Starbux instant coffee made it an outstanding evening indeed.

Drove up to northern Illinois to meet up with Garlic08. Garlic is thru-biking across the country and happened to be in my home state on the 4th. After some killer chicken we watched some fireworks over the Illinois River.

Drank a pint of English Ale, and then was thankful we celebrate by eating hot dogs instead of a plate full of fish n' chips.

We are so lucky.

Buddy of mine lives on NY ave, very close to the Washington memorial. We went up to the roof, and had panaramic views of all the fireworks surrounding DC. Then the fireworks went off next to tue memorial, and we were so close. It was breathtaking.

On the way home, people were setting them off and one landed on my arm. Surprising how much it hurt the next day for such a little object.

I was on the Mall in'96' for the Fireworks, The flags, the Monument, the National Symphony playing...humanity surrounding us.....it was something I will never forget, and no display can rival it.

Spent the day driving from Tennessee to South Carolina to cook, clean, and run errands for a few days for my Mama, who just had hip-replacement surgery. Stopped on the way in Crossville, Tennessee to take an elderly home-bound, wheelchair-bound friend and his nurse to buffet lunch at Cumberland Mountain State Park, overlooking the lake.

I need all the brownie points I can get, if I'm ever gonna git into heaven! :)

I got off the trail right near DC to escape the heat and visit with friends and family. I've been enjoying air conditioned house and car while I clean and repair the gear I am not replacing. Tent is set up on the back deck for seam sealing along with drying pack and sleeping pad. I'm even wearing cotton clothes! :banana Looking forward to getting back on the trail in a couple days refreshed and refocused.

Alas, even with the military gone, their no booze rule still applies to us contractors. It would've been nice, but I'll live. Now that you've revealed yourself as a man of good taste, what's your favorite? I'm quite partial to Lagavulin myself.

Had a nice dinner of baked beans, grilled kabobs, corn on the cob, coleslaw, lemonade, chips & dip, sourdough rolls, with homemade apple pie à la mode for dessert. Before we ate we took turns reading aloud the Declaration of Independence (we're pretty patriotic around here). Afterwards we went to a fireworks show at a local resort.
