I'm looking to buy (or DIY) an underquilt for my hammock. I'll pose my question on hammockforums.net as well but thought I could get good feedback on insulation material here as well. I know all the positives and negatives of down v synthetic. (weight, pack size, cost, etc). I live in Alabama (hey, it's humid here) and am worried about the humidity getting the down wet and causing problems as well as general condensation and rain soaking in to the down fill.
What's everybody's experience with the two materials? I'd love to go with down, but the water issue has me hesitant to pull the trigger.

IMHO down is the way to go, there are several places to get a good down underquilt or if you can sew DIY.

The weight of high quality down, is worth the extra effort to keep it dry.

It doesnt matter if my sleeping bag is down or synthetic, I still dont intend to let it get wet.
