I've been trying to save up funds for my trip, but have been unsuccessful. Nearly a week ago my friend told me about a site to try and help raise funds. I joined and now I'm desperately trying to spread my fundraiser and my facebook around. I understand that most won't donate to help since they don't know me, but for those that will, I will be eternally grateful!

I will share the links to my fundraiser (http://www.gofundme.com/ukjfk) and my facebook (http://www.facebook.com/nicklost).

Please donate if you can and add me on facebook if you would like to help share my fundraiser. (I post updates that i encourage every one of my friends to share ^.^)

Hopefully I will see you on the trail in 2013!

You didn't say in so many words: is this for an AT thruhike in 2013?

If you don't have the financial resources for a thruhike, I suggest postponing the hike another year or until you've worked and saved enough money.

You will find that trying to hit up friends - not to even mention total strangers - for "donations" to pay for your 5 month vacation will not be well-received.

Cookerhiker said it nicely. Just wait around and you'll find out. Or you could search the topic, read old responses and have this thread closed before it gets ugly.

Man I sure wish Lone Wolf was here to remark on this one...

It really is just bad form to seek donations for what is a 5 month vacation. One should be saving money first and once saved, then plan your thru hike. In the mean time drop the 20 ounce sodas from your diet. Most folks are spending $60-90 a month right there.

WB policy is that any fundraising is for a trail related charity. Technically, it's sort of personal trail charity but I am going to get a clarification from ATTroll about how to proceed because for sure this thread will go south quick.
