Me and my friend are in Florida without a car and are attempting to find a way to the GA entrance onto the AT. We can take a bus to Atlanta Georgia, but that is still 80 miles from the trail. We could walk, since we are planning to do a thru-hike, but a ride would be much appreciated if anyone is carpooling. We could help with gas, but our funds are very low. Any help would be much appreciated :D Thank you and have a great day!

Amtrak will get you to Gainesville, GA. From there take a taxi to Amicalola SP.

Hopefully you're in the planning/shakedown phase. If so you'll find plenty of advice and information here.

Pardon me for asking but do you know what a "thru-hike" is?

Isn't it when you start from one beginning of the AT and finish out the other end?

Yes that is exactly what a thru-hike is.

OK - then I suggest you follow the advice in Post #8.

You can't hike the AT in New Hampshire and Maine in November and December unless you're very experienced in cold weather camping and have the necessary gear.

If your funds are insufficient, I suggest working for a year or 2 and taking on a thruhike when you have enough $$$. And if you intend to hike north starting at Springer, then start some time in March, mid-April at the latest.
