Well, I finally caught up in the Cafe, perhaps for the last time until August (got a lot to do over the next day). I see that I have already fallen out of the Fantastic Five and may not even be in the Dirty Dozen by the time I get back. But hey I get to go hiking so I will take that tradeoff. :)

So, Rasty when is your next trip to NH?
So, Rasty when is your next trip to NH?
In NH now but working 9 days out of 9 so no chance to do any hiking except for a possible day hike on Wednesday.
Rasty, saw a car today with UNCW bumper sticker. I assume it was Wilmington, which made me think of you for what it is worth.

Well make the most of what you got, and may you can get more out of the next trip. You appeared to be getting some nice ones in on your last few trips.

I got lucky with weather and having a day off each week on the last two trips. I got paid to hike four days in the Whites.
UNCW is Wilmington! Go Seahawks or something like that.
We have not had cable at home for about 8 years now, so my children are watching Johnny Bravo right now (at my Dad's house). He is definitely a classic and something I will admit I missed.

Ok soo.. this is my last post in the Cafe. It's been really a lot of FUN.. thanks so much for all the laughs, support and friendship. It's been more than I ever expected. I love you guys (and gals) to the moon and back. :)
I was extremely hurt (still am). The post insinuated that "others" feel negative things about me as well. That's hitting below the belt, causing me to feel so singled out and unsure, now, of all ones "friends". And then, not one person "talked" to me, in the thread, right after "the bomb" was dropped on me. Once "the cat was out of the bag" someone needed to tell me what was up with that. I was just sittin there "holding it". If y'all had told me, kindly, how you were feeling- I would have been very defensive, at first, and then I would have apologized ... the whole thing would have ended well, IMHO.
Just start "talking".... Yeah, y'all were talking alright, just not to me. Bad HM... to the "corner" with you! Not a "room", HB! ;)
I can't deal with that.... If someone starts something... there needs to be a finish. If I started something- I don't think the proper finish was to bite my head off, spit it out on the floor and walk away... that's just me.
I'm guilty of "finger wagging" at times and more. Shoot me. I'm really sorry about that, I do that, sometimes. It's one of my many faults.
I officially bequeath, my spot, in the dirty dozen, to LW. A perfect fit! :) Embrace the suck for real.
HB... you say that the internet is just words but I remember the time when someone came into the Cafe and told you, you were being a weenie (or something to that affect) for complaining about all the damage & what you were going through when the storm hit LI. It's just words... uh huh! Then, when you called this person on it, instead of "owning it" and apologizing that person blamed their "words" on the fact that they had just been "traumatized" by doing a rescue volunteer job.
Words can sting and hurt in person and on the internet. I know you've heard it said that words can hurt a person more than a physical blow, sometimes. The good thing about "the net" is that we can control the "pain".. love it!! :)
If someone posts offensive stuff, and then hides behind the phrase... "I'm just calling it like it really is" & sayin you are the one that is just being sensitive"... that's BS, sometimes. (there's a more technical word for it... it's called "projecting") It's never the person's fault.. always someone else. Got it! ;)
I do think we should change from it's just talkin to- it's just BS'in. That seems more appropriate, sometimes. :)
Someone "typed" that freakin Ridge Runners are only good for picking up garbage. REALLY? That's irresponsible posting, IMHO. Typing that all shelters and trail magic should be banished on the AT is another example of irresponsible posting on an Appalachian Trail (White Blaze web site) It's what makes the AT the trail it is.. it's different from the other trails. (the good side and the bad side of it) Those naysayers bug me to death. Sorry got a lil side-tracked. :)
I'm not a good fit for this place on so many levels. I've done well for being meee!! :banana
I will be posting on other threads, if something interests me- if I can offer a shuttle or helpful advice, other than that... I will not post on another controversial thread. There's way too many A-holes, that post on those threads. I can't deal, I tried .....FAIL!!
This is a humor thread & my post has been wayyyy too serious. Carry/hike on my friends... I'll always love ya- whether you like it or not ;)
# justshootingstraightfromthehip
Don't bother to respond to what I wrote on this thread - I won't see it! Once I hit the reply button I will never click on this thread again.. that's a promise. I feel most comfortable this way. :) It's all good!!
To any of you out there that are thinking of joining this group of fine peeps!! I highly recommend this place, seriously. They are a fine and extremely funny bunch- they will always be near and dear to my heart, forever!!
From the drama Queen.... HIKERMOM! Take care but mostly have FUN!! If any of you are coming to my area, I want to see you for sure!! The welcome mat is still out for any of you. PM me if you want to talk or make plans for a visit!!

Madison/Adams/Jefferson. Just don't use the Valley Way - apparently viewless until the scrub. There are several waterfall routes near it which would be better, if you like waterfalls, and if you want a stern test, go up King Ravine on Adams or Castle/Castle Ravine on Jeff.

king ravine is not a very easy day hike, neither is castle ravine although they are both awesome trails.great gully trail is cool too with a couple hairy scrambles. valley way happens to be pretty nice, views are great but so is the forest but i really love the amphibranch trail as an alternative to valley way. anyway those ravine trails are best done as an overnight to either madison hut or one of the rmc camps like the perch or crag camp. they are all difficult trails and steep.
there are some nice loops you can do out of appalachia. some nice falls, and a bit less travelled than franconia and the presis

Don't blame ya...I'd do that to, but if I did feel like going aquablazing...then I'd do that as well, and not give it another thought....but that's me:)
Canoeing is fun too, and I have done a few trips. But plenty of that around where I live. If I make the effort to get over to the AT, I am gonna hike.

great to have a plan, but the bottom line is you just take it a day at a time, take what the trail gives you that day, the miles come on their own as soon as you stop worrying about them.

king ravine is not a very easy day hike, neither is castle ravine although they are both awesome trails.great gully trail is cool too with a couple hairy scrambles. valley way happens to be pretty nice, views are great but so is the forest but i really love the amphibranch trail as an alternative to valley way. anyway those ravine trails are best done as an overnight to either madison hut or one of the rmc camps like the perch or crag camp. they are all difficult trails and steep.
there are some nice loops you can do out of appalachia. some nice falls, and a bit less travelled than franconia and the presis
True for most hikers, but I factored in that it's Rasty, who went up Tuck's, off trail, with spring snow and ice. I reckon he could get up any of those and down an easier route such as Airline or Howker Ridge, easier being a relative term, in a day without a problem.
Rasty: King Ravine features a snow cave which, from what I read, is like the snow deep in the boulders you get in Mahoosuc Notch. Not, from what I hear, a hiking hazard, just something cool to see in early July. It is a notoriously difficult route, which seems to be right down your alley. Lots of scrambling moves and steep pitches.

Would it be okay to just WEAR a blaze? I could put one on my pack. Course that wouldn't help much if I was slacking... Hey, I could just get a tattoo, a 2"x6" white rectangle on my rear. We had a pet skunk for a little while when I was a kid. It was wild, but you know how they are - they don't run off like a rabbit. One of my brothers caught it, calmed it, and we kept it in the house for a couple weeks or so. Stunk like crazy when you first walked in. A few minutes later you couldn't smell a thing.
Funny what we get used to.
