All this talking about blazing trails has given me a great idea. I think I will blaze my local rails to trails trail this spring. Since it only goes for 11 miles and has no intersecting trails I think it would have a lot of locals wondering.

Put in a few double blaze in there just to make it interesting! lol.

Yeah, that's a great idea, most people on this trail wouldn't know what it meant but that doesn't matter, they don't know what a blaze is either.

All kidding aside I don't get too frustrated with different people asking the same questions. I try to remember that it wasn't too long ago that I was a complete newbie to this site. I did however read almost every artical written. I had years of outdoor experience but minimal backpacking knowledge. Probably asked a few repeat questions myself. I try to keep in mind how excited I was to find out there were such great people who enjoyed passing on their knowledge.

I agree and do make an effort to be helpful when I can. That doesn't mean that we can't stop into the cafe and have a a good time poking fun at the perennial newbie questions every now and again.

She didn't get scammed! she got the junk she Ebayed for.... It turns out all one had to do was google the fabrics, they were not ripstop, they were not UV treated, there was no bathtub floor material... They would not last a summer. Take my word for it go find a spot in the back yard and pitch a cheap tent and come back in three months... I have already done that in several backyard test.
OK she did - My mistake... I found what folks are referencing I don't feel bad because she is out what? $60 it's a nasty lesson. Folks lose money all the time... I got screwed with my prescriptions & insurance $100 per month last year.

Part B of pole would be to have pop up threads in that area. Either that or I create a word doc with all links so I can just paste it in instead of searching fr old links & typing. I do like to help when I can. But it gets frustrating at times. THERE IS NO ONE RIGHT WAY. I admit that. My way is not the only way. Just one style. When I did a LASH of PCT I actually had a guy who had to abort his thru & hiked/camped with me for a while in Sierras thanked me for reminding him how to hike civilized. I would get to a pretty spot & decide...LUNCH!...then pull out a book & read, or maybe take a nap. Even on AT I would commonly sleep in. Another hiker leaving campsite roused me from my slumber packing up. I looked up to see what was going on & he said I should change my trail name to Rip Van Winkle. Sorry, venting here.

Just saw pack theft thread & reminded me of funny story.
Just hit VT & ran into a hiker I hadn't seen since VA. Due to a hellacious ran did a short day. Next day as me & Sundance were make the steep decent to RT 9 when we heard running behind us. We look behind us & see Gator coming up fast. When we asked what he was doing he said he was slackpacking from shelter before us & headed up to Manchester Center & the church hostel there (now Closed). We get to the road & there is King who has been slacking his wife for most of the trail since he got board with the green tunnel early on. Sundance looks at me & asks if I want to slack into Manchester. I mention it's almost 10 & it's over 30 miles away. He just smiles & says "We can do it!" So water bottle, bag of gorp, camera, map & flashlight go into fanny pack & we take off fast. We get to Manchester around midnight & realize in the now deserted town we have no clue where hostel is since neither of us thought to bring our town guide. By luck a car pulls out of ally by us & tells us it's just a mile north. We find it & of course everyone in the church basement is crashed out on couches or their mats sleeping. We try to be as quiet as posible but can't find our packs. We locate Gator on a couch & try to quietly wake him up asking where our packs are. As luck would have it he was having a bad dream that his pack got stolen. He goes from a dead sleep to shouting " Our Packs! Where the F*** are the packs?" Of course by the time we calmed him down & he realized he was just dreaming we had woken everyone in the place up.

One of the funnyest part of the hike was running to Stratton Pond Shelter to catch the sun reflected off the pond as it set. The shelter was pretty full since it was the weekend. One know it all wearing combat boots was critiquing everyone's gear. We listened as we took a break & hydrated. when he got to us with our small fanny packs & asked what we were doing we told him we where headed into town. He went on how we couldn't do it, & how long it took him to hike up that trail (less than 1 mph). Sundance just said "after 30 mile's, what's another 4 or 5?" This about set the guy to stuttering, Sundance looked at me & asked if I was ready & off we went at a fast pace into the darkness. Once out of range of a shelter we busted a gut over the look of MR Expert!

Don't mess with the gators. If you leave them alone, they shouldn't bother you. :)
We only got one spot on the 3rd day where we gotta watch out for gators. It's a long walk through some pretty good water of about 5 or 6 hundred yards. We could take the dry way around but what fun would that be.

When are you starting at Springer?
How long did your cyberhike take? Did you see any bears? How many posts per days? How many zeros & nearos? What did you eat? How did you store your food? Where did you sleep?
Well I did the first state in small section hikes over a couple of years but with the arrival of the cafe I really took off. I've seen a few bears, there used to be one skulking around the back but then the Bundaberg Rum bear scared him away.
The Bundy bear left with the Hooters girls and since then there have only been a few koalas pop in, but they're not really bears.
I can't work out how many posts per day as when a day starts and finishes still confuses me in here. I have had a lot more zeroes than neroes (there is a school of thought that says all POHO's are zeroes...).
My food never seemed to go off and I have had liberal amounts of Vegemite and mashed potatoes (although even I agrre they don't mix well), all washed down with lots of water run through a SILWF. I slept well and often, usually through the loudest of conversations.
Strangely, I've gained weight..............;)
Congrats! Turn around and head south for a Yo-Yo!
I am still working on completing the "cafe" thruhike.

Tent platforms no more than 5' apart one hour drive from NYC. Seemed like everyone had a boom box on a different channel. Thankfully park staff set up a special area for hikers in a grassy spot.

this place needs to be win-win-win for our benfit, the benefit of the cafe and the benefit of whiteblaze.

First weekend in March (a long weekend here) my wife and I do a market stall in Augusta on the southern tip of the state.
Because of the public holiday and everyone here in the city being sick of the heat by now, everywhere in the south is fully booked out and crowded.
We usually stay at a caravan park/camping ground with our tent. The only spots they offer for tents that weekend are all on a significant slope.
I now know to pack some rubber matting to go under the mattresses to stop from sliding out the front of the tent at night.
I don't like crowds much so the AT in March is going to be an experience.

I was going to say were not old just matured like a fine wine...then I stopped & thought about it. I'll get back when I think of something snarky that is appropriate.

Do you guys have crowd called the Ulysses club over there?
We have them and they're all old and mostly get around on Honda Goldwing motorcycles.
They have lots of cruises and things.
Anyway - I like one of their tee shirts. "Sh#t I grew old fast":D

I sometimes sit here for ages, post something, wait, get up and go to the loo, come back and refresh screen, get a response from someone who has gone again.
I've just got used to it.
I think some people check the posts at 3am on their way to the loo and then go back to bed.

Smike has no legal right to sell it! HB may be my silent partner from start up but Smike has no shares in it.

I also love how people are known by initials. You would think there would be a lot of duplication, but it does not seem to be a problem. There is also symmetry that appleals to my OCD. I was always Bugz Bunny on "bulletin boards" (the precursor to the internet). The "z" denoted that I was not the real Bugs. BB would fit for that too.

Me too. I do that during to day when normal people are working. I work nights and miss most of the fun.
Having said that, I now have to go as the sea breeze is in and it's cool enough to do all the jobs I was meant to do while my wife is out with friends.
I finish work on Wednesday and after that will probably have a short stint talking "live" with you guys in your evenings most days.
I will have to ration it as I have a lot of jobs to do and early morning is the only time cool enough to expend much energy around here.

You're all forgiven.
I drop in and out all the time.
That's why the cafe works better for me than something like Facebook chat (which I don't do).
