SALISBURY—
A hiker in his 30's suffered a head injury on the Appalachian Trail (http://www.courant.com/topic/travel/tourism-leisure/appalachian-national-scenic-trail-PLTRA00058.topic) on Thursday morning, a dispatcher with Litchfield County Dispatch said.The severity of the hiker's injury is unknown.

He is at the Mt. Riga Shelter waiting for responding crews, said Dispatcher Martin Rinko.

The hiker was with a group of friends. The incident was reported at 11:02 a.m., Rinko said.

OH DEAR!! :( I'm glad he wasn't hiking by himself. Praying he'll be OK!!

My guess is that he slipped on rocks slickened by yesterday's rain, maybe tooling around (not meant perjoratively) near the shelter/campground. It's pretty rocky over near the water source, so maybe there.

I heard something about this on my am/fm radio as I was hiking toward CT around this time. It may be updated elsewhere but think this was a trail mantainer doing work when he got hurt. The radio report said he was carried about a mile and airlifted out. Pray he'll be ok. Sounds scary. Loner

Could have happened anywhere, even at home. It's not that fearsome, this stretch of trail. Hope he's ok.
