The 3rd Southeastern Foot Trails Conference starts in just 4 days. For those of y'all who live near Greenville, SC or Asheville, NC - there are some activities that you might be interested in.

On Thursday April 28, there are a series of hikes that will take place in & around Table Rock State Park. At 10 AM a 12-mile hike on the Palmetto Trail - Jocasse Gorges segment will take place. The meeting place is the Palmetto Trail trailhead by The Barn in Table Rock SP. This hike is rated VERY STRENUOUS.

At 11 AM, a hike in DuPont State Park (in NC) will leave from the Table Rock Wesleyan Camp (next to Table Rock SP). There is a 1-hour car shuttle to get to this hike - that will pass a series of waterfalls. This hike is rated Moderate-Strenuous.

At 12 PM a 7-mile hike to the top of Table Rock Mountain will leave from the Carrick Creek Interpretive Center (nature center) inside Table Rock SP. This hike is rated Strenuous.

At 2 PM the Backpacker Get Out More Team will lead a 1.5 mile hike on the Carrick Creek Loop Trail. This hike is rated easy-moderate.

If you are interested in these free hikes - you need to arrive 20-30 minutes ahead of the start of the hike.

On Friday evening April 29 at 8 PM, Drovers Old Time Medicine Show will be performing at Table Rock State Park in The Barn. Admission is $10 - children 12 & under are free. There is an admission fee to the State Park - $2 per car. The Barn also serves as our exhibit hall, and more than 20 hiking & conservation organizations will have exhibits setup. Representatives from ATC, GATC, Nantahala Hiking Club, NC Bartram Trail Society, Florida Trail Association, Alabama Hiking Trail Society, Alabama Trails Association, Cumberland Trail Conference, Georgia Pinhoti Trail Association, Benton MacKaye Trail Association, Friends of the Mountains to Sea Trail, Palmetto Conservation Foundation (Palmetto Trail SC), Carolina Mountain Club, Foothills Trail Conference, and MANY MORE will be present. Come on down, mingle, boogie, check out the exhibits, or just have some plain old fun with some great live bluegrass.

On Saturday night, Naturalist Rudy Mancke will be speaking in The Barn at 8 PM. His program is entitled "Natural History of the Blue Ridge Escarpment." Rudy is best known as a SC Public TV personality on NatureScene - http://www.naturescene.org/. If you're interested in flora & fauna, and want to learn from an expert, Rudy will prove to be a great teacher. Again, a $10 donation is requested - and kids 12 & under are free.

I hope to see some of y'all at the event.
