What's a reasonable source for a set of Pinhoti Trail maps? The various association websites hint at a set for Alabama and a separate set for Georgia.

Anywhere to get it all at once?

Not that I am aware of. I was in contact today with a guy who has hiked the AT twice and he tells me the trail is well marked and you don't need the maps. He did say you need the AT=thru=hikers companion. He highly recommended that. Good luck. I am headed out in March 2013.

The trail notes on PTA and Mr. Parkay's maps are all I ever use.

I didn't need a map on the Pinhoti, but some better trail descriptions would have been helpful. I specifically remember one 16-mile section with no water (at least in the winter). A little warning would have been nice.

If you need help with shuttles or resupply on the southernmost section of the trail, Blister Bob is awesome.

blisterbob is awesome. 4 of us were on the trail over the last 2 weeks and 2 of the guys used the services of blisterbob. One needed to bail out due to injury and blisterbob was there in 45min. Another just needed shuttled back to his car and blisterbob picked him up at porters gap and took him back all the way outside of Piedmont on Hwy 70. Great service.

blisterbob pretty much leaves that up to you. I know people who have used him in the past and he's told them that the next time was on him. Of course they didn't do that, he's too nice a guy. HE BRINGS COOKIES. He will let you keep your vehicle in his yard (usually under the carport) and take you to any trailhead you like. Which in my opinion is a good idea, although I've known people to leave their cars at numerous trailheads with no problems, I wouldn't do it but only at Cheaha State Park. He's about 15-20 minutes from the Cheaha State Park Trailhead. He's outside of Ashland.

I bought and used the 5 set Pinhoti maps years ago. They worked for me.

Yep, these maps are still pretty good even though they are 15 years old, nothing much has changed in the parts that they do cover. They cover from MM 52.3 Porters Gap Trailhead / AL 77 to MM 161.1 High Point Trailhead / US 278. The trail is now entirely in the woods from MM 23 / FS 603A Trailhead to MM 173.9 / Jackson Chapel Trailhead. Gloria Nielsen with the USFS Shoal Creek Ranger Distric tells me there is talk of a map 6 which will include the last 29.3 miles from Porters Gap to 603A but it's the Feds and you know how fast they move so don't hold your breath. As for the last 12.8 miles from High Point to Jackson Chapel it's anybody's guess. But, the Pinhoti maps 1-5 are nice.
