Took a day hike around the Standing Indian/Franklin area today and saw a few notices posted at the trailhead and Rock Gap Shelter saying "Long Branch Shelter is not open for use". These notices were dated from this March. I though I knew the area pretty well, but could not for the life of me figure out were Long Branch Shelter is. Anybody know if this is a new shelter some where along this section of the AT or a blue blaze trail? Why is it not in use? Thanks. :)

Its a new shelter 2 miles N of Albert that is currently under construction and should be done later this year. Unfortunately, this shelter was listed by at least one thru-hiker handbook as if it was complete.

Hey Wolf, is it by any chance replacing the Big Spring shelter?

i have no idea but it should replace it and rock gap shelter. it would be better if there were no shelters at all in that stretch between albert mtn. and winding stair gap
