Last night I was at the local WallyWorld picking up a few groceries and I saw that Spam Singles were only a buck. I picked one up to read the label, as I haven't eaten spam in, literally, decades. But I noticed that the expiration date was August of 2015. Since I'm hitting the trail in 2014, yeah, I picked up a few of them for the food box I've got going in my closet. Went with the Spam Lite singles though...

Anybody use these things? I mean, all I can think of is cut up in instant potatoes or Knorr noodles. Doubt I'll make a sammie out of 'em anytime soon, though.

Yep, I use them sparingly. They get nasty pretty quick. I cut 'em up and put them on a tortilla with mayo and crunched up fritos.

I was gonna ask here about Spam singles. Seems as if they have dissappeared from the WalMart and Publix stores around St Pete. Was wondering of they are still out there.

I have never and still don't eat SPAM off-trail, started using them in my no-cook plan 2 years ago. AWESOME

Light, easy, simple, extra tasty with mustard packets requesitioned from fast food places or rest stops on the highway. Pita bread, maybe some cheese = dinner.

They've dissapeared from Tallahassee, too. Too darned bad; I always acquaite Spam with camping (usually with fried eggs) 'cause when I was growing up, my parents would take me camping, and always at least one meal would be Spam.

Spam singles are a great backpacking food - I alternate with the tuna packs to get some variety. I eat them regularly on the trail, occasionally at home too. Good stuff.

10-K

I held you in pretty high regard online until now

Seriously, SPAM slamming???

If anyone could appreciate SPAM singles I thought you would be in that crowd. My only disappointment in Pearisburg was SPAM not being available in single serving, only those full cans of spam.

Why?

Guess people down South eat Spam by the can, not wimpy little single servings.

lets ban 10-k for dissing spam!
i would carry a full can of spam along with a full loaf of bread, spam mustard sandwiches along with my doritos and jar of salsa :-)
the rest of the bread would go with other types of meats and stuff, or with my dinners

Not really - 10-K keep in mind I can fry in butter and soak in a Raspberry Duck BBQ Sauce - and you would not recognize spam... I could easily tell you its a Ham Jerk and you would never know... Its all in the imagination..... Keep in mind I can reduce the weight in half per can!

Please? I'm sorry....

I remeber watching a special on SPAM on the discovery channel or something like that. They know spam is easily good to 10 yrs, and it might even be good as long as 30 yrs or more.

My son likes it in mac and cheese. I can stomach it there, but really dont like the stuff, too salty.

The Giant food stores of PA (also known as Martin's in MD and VA, and not the same as Giant in MD, or Giant Eagle in western PA) typically do have the Spam singles. I made a point this summer of stopping at the Spam Museum on my way out to Yellowstone.

In PA at least the availability of Spam singles is really spotty. Even convenience stores, oddly enough tend to have the 1/2 size can not the singles.
