I am considering walking between southern Brevard County and Jacksonville. Is there a portion of the FT that can be followed along this route?

You can pick up the trail west of the Brevard County line in Osceola county. The trail crosses US 192 west of the St. Johns River.
It then generally heads inland around the east side of Orlando and then north towards Ocala National Forest.

Doesn't really go near Jacksonville, but near Starke and Raiford and into Osceola National Forest

Never mind EAST of Orlando was correct the first time.

Thank you for the update. On the trail in Fl. I had read somewhere that there was a portion of the FT that goes up both the east and west sides of the state. Though I have yet o actually look at a map. Shame on me.

That is true in two areas. You can go east or west of Lake Okeechobee in south Florida or you can east or west in the Ocala National Forest. The closest the FT gets to Jacksonville is in Osceola State Park. In the ONF the western trail takes you thru Citrus County and takes adds time to your hike especially if you are doing a thru.

This map will show the splits. Have a great hike

The split at Lake O is in contention. USFS wants to drop one route and the FTA is fighting to keep both. Just for clarification Osceola is a National Forest and not a Florida State park.

The section from Lake Butler through Osceola and along the Suwannee to Stephen Foster State Park is mine. I'll try to answer any questions you may have and please let me know what you think after you go through (good or bad). I know there's a blow down west of Bell Springs trailhead (actually closer to Big Shoals) that I haven't gotten cleared yet.
