I was passing the Philadelphia Airport and as route 95 curved around I saw a rainbow! (WITHOUT RAIN) unfamiliar with the phenomenon I was stunned to see the rainbow occurred all the way down the coast to Florida! They are incredibly rare and even when the cirrus clouds are there you have to be in the right location to see them with the sun in the right position. So even though at the airport it was very bright, two miles south it was gone, and the cloud was still there. Has anyone else seen this? I had no idea what these were called and I thought I know the basics of weather.

Here is what it looks like

I believe they are called "Glory's" a meteorological term, and different than "Sun dogs" Cool find find Woo, pretty rare indeed.

Sometimes also known as "Broken specters"

Could it be a sign from the Mayans? What was that date?

That is really cool that you saw this rainbow. Right place-right time. All it takes is sun and water droplets and the right place to observe. Pilots see many rainbows that are round--we see arcs because we are at ground level. I used to travel a lot by air and during one landing through light clouds the plane descended right through the center of several concentric round rainbows. I was thrilled and told everyone I new about it and a pilot friend told me that it was not uncommon for that to happen. It wasn't common for me and I felt blessed as I am sure you do as well.
