The Sentinel story leaves out a few facts and makes it seem like the canoeist paddled to the fire station. I was trying to think of where on the Ocklawaha there was a fire station.
Then a more complete article says they were on the Juniper Run and that the canoeist drove to get help. The run is damn full of gators, but I guess this one wasn't hungry enough for a full meal.
“This was an unfortunate incident, but the alligator is a wild alligator living in a federally designated wilderness area where swimming is not allowed,” said Joy Hill, FWC spokeswoman.
